A practical guide to sizing your air conditioner correctly so you save energy and stay cool.

Choosing the right BTU for your room is the single biggest factor in whether your new air conditioner will keep you comfortable while keeping your electric bill reasonable.
As a rule of thumb, multiply the room size in square meters by 600–700 BTU for typical Thai bedrooms. Add 20% for west-facing rooms with strong afternoon sun.
Quick reference
Going too small means the unit runs constantly and never cools the room. Going too big means it short-cycles, leaving the air clammy and using more electricity in the long run.
